Is Google Apps secure?
Google Apps™ is a suite of communication and collaboration tools by Google providing several Google products to its users under single domain name. It features several Web Applications like Gmail, Google Calendar, Talk, Docs and Sites. It is a set of hosted applications for organizations that want high quality communication tools for their users without the hassle of installing and maintaining software or hardware. Google Apps is the focus of today’s cloud computing boon, a combination of new age messaging and collaboration applications which are Proven, Reliable, Secure and Highly Cost Effective.
However, there is lot of apprehension about its security features. It is reasoned that JavaScript has become so complicated, it’s difficult to find all its vulnerabilities. So it’s very difficult to find automated ways to check the security of Web 2.0 applications that rely on JavaScript. Experts however argue that this apprehension is only due to the fact that people are still not fully aware of the security features offered by cloud computing.
Google applications provide a variety of security features. Google claims that it utilizes numerous physical, logical, and operational security measures to ensure the maximum data security and privacy.
Google focuses on several aspects of security that are critical to business customers:
- Organizational and Operational Security – Various policies and procedures are followed to ensure security at every phase of design, deployment and ongoing operations.
- Data Security – Here, customer data is stored on secure servers within secure applications.
- Threat Evasion – All the information of users are protected from the hackers.
- Safe Access – It refers that only authorized users can access data hence the access channel is secure.
- Data Privacy – Confidential information of users are kept private.
Organizations of all sizes are facing common challenge of helping their users to communicate and share information more effectively. They can hand this over to Google - experts in delivering high quality email, messaging and other web-based services, while they focus on the needs of their users.
Moreover, if figures are any indication, security is defenitely not an issue with busineess using Google Apps. A survey revealed that more than 1.75 million businesses have already signed up for the Google Apps suite, and this number is expanding by an additional 3,000 businesses each day.

I agree that the number of businesses adopting Google Apps is itself an indication that security is not an issue with Google Apps. Had it been, any reporting would have spread like fire on the social media.
In cloud computing security typically improves due to centralization of data and increased security-focused resources. Security is often as good as or better than under traditional systems, in part because providers are able to devote resources to solving security issues that many customers cannot afford.
